Those who know me, know that I am obsessed with Halloween. Halloween is my favourite time of the year and for the past 3 years in a row, I celebrated fall with some annual halloween themed photoshoots.
I love the fall season
Colourful orange and red backgrounds, hazy skies and crisp weather makes for great photoshoots. It’s not too hot and not too cold, so outfit choices for the session are endless.
Halloween themed photoshoots are my favourite
Around Halloween is when I find myself the most creative. I love thinking out of the box to try new photography styles or shooting methods. Last Halloween, I used smoke bombs for the first time which created a purple cloudy background – you can see how amazing that looked in the gallery below.
Skulls, Skulls and More Skulls
If you haven’t noticed, I really really like skulls. I incorporate skulls into almost all of my Halloween themed photoshoots in one way or another. In my last photoshoot, the male model was holding a skull, but in the majority of my shoots, the models have skulls painted on their face. Sometimes the face paint/makeup is spooky and sometimes it is intricate and beautiful like the face makeup used for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that involves remembering friends and family members who have died. This tradition is held on November 1 and 2nd and is a time for celebration, not for mourning. I am so intrigued and appreciative of this celebration and to experience Dia de los Muertos in Mexico one day is the dream.
If you are wondering who the two cute sheet ghosts are down below, they are Freya and Emmett, my niece and nephew. They have such quirky personalities which always makes for a fun shoot with hilarious photos. For these photos, we thrifted some white sheets and cut tiny holes for the eyes. The easiest, yet most effective, Halloween attire.
